A man with an ISIS face scarf posted a selfie outside of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art with the chilling caption: “We are in your home”.
The image made its rounds on a pro-ISIS channel on the messaging app Telegram. The selfie comes after ISIS released a video with shots of New York while simultaneously calling for more lone wolf attacks.
The poster that went with the video has the horrifying phrase “It’s cheaper than a chainsaw” below a picture of ISIS militants in a church.
Authorities are now reportedly investigating the photographs of the possible ISIS supporter. A NYPD spokesperson commented that the NYPD is “aware of the photograph”, going on to state:
“As with all terror related threats, the NYPD is looking into the incident. At this time there are no credible threats related to New York City.”
Another image is also part of the investigation after a picture was taken of someone holding a phone with the ISIS flag in view of the One World Trade Center building.
Currently it remains unclear whether or not the pictures are authentic, but Eric Feinberg, co-founder of GIPEC, “a cyber-intelligence company that tracks terrorism-related hashtags,” noted that the threats should be “taken seriously” regardless of their validity.
