PRIORITIES: Lawmakers Complain Congressional Gym Doesn’t Have Enough Towels Amid #SchumerShutdown

It’s relieving to know our elected officials share the same concerns as everyday Americans, like “does my taxpayer-funded gym have enough towels to dry my overpaid, underworked body today?” Yes, while Americans anxiously wait as Congress negotiates the re-opening of the federal government, House members complained Saturday that the Congressional gym wasn’t stocked with enough towels, wondering if the shutdown is to blame, says Washington Post reporter Robert Costa. 

“Members also complaining to me that the House gym lacks enough towels this morning and they wonder if it’s because of the shutdown,” added Costa.

Costa did not say whether the complainers were Democrats or Republicans.

The National Review‘s Jonah Goldberg joked, “It’s like the siege of Stalingrad over there.”

“Courage like this not witnessed since the Charge of the Light Brigade. These are made of damned fine stuff. Whoever would have known,” tweeted Hollywood star James Woods.

“when does the cannibalism start?” asked Airborne Toxic Event singer Mikel Jollett.

Townhall‘s Kurt Schlichter chimed in, “I’m going to organize a parade El Segundo to honor Ted Lieu for his sacrifice.”

If House members want to know how they should be blaming specifically, it’s the Democrats, reports the New York Times, Bloomberg and AP.

“U.S. Shutdown Starts as Senate Democrats Block GOP Funding Plan” a Bloomberg headline blared early Saturday morning, referring to the Senate’s inability to agree on a variety of budgetary issues. The New York Times and AP chimed in with similar headlines.

Republican and Democratic leaders have not stopped talking through their differences. Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, for instance, said late Friday night that the conflict has a “really good chance” of being resolved before the weekend concludes. […]

Media outlets, meanwhile, painted the issue in harsh tones for the Democrats — one NYT headline declared: “Senate Democrat Block Bill to Keep Government Open Past Midnight, Shutdown Looms,” while the AP simply noted that, “Senate Democrats derail bill to avert shutdown.”

As previously reported by The Gateway Pundit‘s Kristinn Taylor, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a blistering statement late Friday night on Senate Democrats blocking funding the federal government in favor of amnesty for DACA recipients.

Senate Democrats own the Schumer Shutdown. Tonight, they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country’s ability to serve all Americans. We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands. This is the behavior of obstructionist losers, not legislators. When Democrats start paying our armed forces and first responders we will reopen negotiations on immigration reform. During this politically manufactured Schumer Shutdown, the President and his Administration will fight for and protect the American people.”
