I make no efforts to hide my love of Chris Pratt, and I won’t attempt to do so here.
I’m of the opinion that Hollywood is more or less bereft of great examples for people to mirror themselves after. The ape part of my brain that associates fame with success drives me to become thrilled at Pratt’s existence, however, due to the fact that on top of being a great talent, he’s a great guy.
As I wrote not long ago, Pratt’s existence in the Hollywood sphere is far more important than we give it credit for. For all intents and purposes, he’s not supposed to exist there. He’s a patriotic American, loves to eat meat that he gets from animals he raised on his farm, is incredibly charitable, and what’s more, a bold Christian.
That last point is something he reaffirmed at the Teen Choice Awards as he accepted his award for “Choice Summer Movie Actor.”
“I want to thank God,” said Pratt as he held up his award. “I always do that when I’m up on a big platform in front of a bunch of young faces. I say, ‘I love God!’ That’s my thing, I love him — and you should, too!”
The audience seemed to agree as they cheered loudly to Pratt’s declaration of faith.
The magic of Pratt is that while he is a Christian, he’s not putting on airs about being a perfect person. He’s not afraid to be the everyman while talking about his faith. Pratt proves that you can be a Christian and still be relatable, which is an idea I feel Hollywood — and in some cases the church itself — has attempted to move the populace away from.
Pratt is able to be a good Christian guy while still being rough around the edges, which the vast majority of us are. I’m happy that he’s showing young adults that too.
