If Democrats and the left wanted to unite Republicans, they couldn’t have done a better job than how they’ve handled the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Democrats love shooting themselves in the feet, so they decided that an all-out war against Kavanaugh was merited. They lost and lost in a significant way, embarrassing themselves along the way with idiotic claims that Kavanaugh was a meany-pants to a Parkland shooting victim’s father and accusing him of saying something about abortion he did not say. There were also the inept antics of Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, both of whom are considering failed runs for the presidency in 2020.
But it’s the leftist activists are the most despicable in this charade. For all we know of Brett Kavanaugh, he’s a good man, respected by people in the legal community on both sides of the aisle. But the left is attempting to make him out to be a monster.
Think Progress, a left-wing organization that doesn’t think all that much and couldn’t tell you what the word progress means, tweeted out the following:
GOP responds to assault allegation against Kavanaugh by pointing out there are women he didn't rape https://t.co/ptNX1ajkfx pic.twitter.com/VmPypcAli6
— ThinkProgress (@thinkprogress) September 14, 2018
What does that tweet say or at the very least, imply? That Kavanaugh did rape a woman. After all, if there is a list of women he didn’t rape, the only logical conclusion to reach is there must be at least one he did rape, correct?
“GOP responds to robbery allegation against Kavanaugh by pointing out there are banks he didn’t rob.”
“GOP responds to arson allegation against Kavanaugh by pointing out there are buildings he did not set on fire.”
“GOP responds to tax fraud allegation against Kavanaugh by pointing out there are years he didn’t defraud the IRS.”
See how it works? It’s easy to make an inference using that language.
Interestingly, in the article, TP resorts to the “Roy Moore used the same defense!” nonsense. Just as the right is wrong to compare Kavanaugh to Moore, so is the left. Moore was accused of sexual misconduct by nine women. On the record.
Kavanaugh is facing one anonymous accusation that supposedly took place while he was in high school and which has been refuted by him and the person who was with him at the time, Mark Judge. There is zero evidence thus far to take these allegations as anything other than a last-gasp attempt by Democrats to thwart Kavanaugh’s nomination.
Speaking of which, it raises an all-important point: Let’s assume for a moment the Democratic smear campaign is successful in getting Kavanaugh to withdraw his nomination.
Donald Trump is not going to do what Reagan did after the Democrats smeared Robert Bork. He’s going to do the opposite. The likely nominee in place of Kavanaugh would be the nominee conservatives wanted: Judge Amy Barrett.
Keep it up, dummies.
