Rep. John Yarmuth, a senior Democrat Congressman from Lexington, Kentucky is calling for teenagers to be banned from wearing pro-Trump Make America Great Again hats, a blatant violation of the First Amendment.
Yarmuth called for the MAGA hat ban in the context of an incident Friday involving MAGA hat wearing Kentucky high school students from nearby Covington that took place in Washington, D.C., where the students, in town for March for Life, were confronted by a Native American activist there for an Indigenous People’s Rally, Nathan Phillips, who loudly banged a drum and chanted an Indian language song without explaining to the students what he was doing.
Initial reports falsely accused the students of being racist and the aggressors in the incident. However, videos soon surfaced showing it was Phillips who was the aggressor and it was his fellow Native American activists who hurled racist invective against the students.

Yarmuth wrote a two part tweet Sunday morning, calling the students “appalling” and calling for the MAGA hat ban.
“I am calling for a total and complete shutdown of teenagers wearing MAGA hats until we can figure out what is going on. They seem to be poisoning young minds. [1/2]”
“The conduct we saw in this video is beyond appalling, but it didn’t happen in a vacuum. This is a direct result of the racist hatred displayed daily by the President of the United States who, sadly, some mistake for a role model. [2/2]”

Yarmuth has not commented on Twitter since, as of publication time.
Yarmuth is a seven term congressman representing Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District, based in Louisville, who took over as chairman of the House Budget Committee in January following the change in power in the House.
