Uruguay and Venezuela Warn Citizens To Avoid Travel To Baltimore

- Agustus 07, 2019

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro demonstrates his Salt Bae sprinkling technique during a press conference at the Miraflores Presidential Palace, in Caracas, Venezuela, Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018. Maduro demonstrated the technique after speaking about the invitation to the famed Nusr-Et steakhouse in Istanbul when he stopped over briefly in Turkey on the way home from a trip to China to raise badly needed investment. CBS Baltimore reports that Uruguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory to citizens planning travel to Baltimore. To be fair, two other U.S. cities, Albuquerque and Detroit, made the list as well.

The travel warning came in the wake of the El Paso and the Dayton, Ohio mass shootings which occurred last weekend. The Ministry cited the Ceoworld Magazine 2019 index as a reference.

In addition, the Venezuelan government warned its citizens against travel to several U.S. cities including Baltimore. The other cities to avoid include Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, Oakland, Memphis, Birmingham, Atlanta, Stockton and Buffalo. In their advisory, the government stated that these cities “are among the 20 most dangerous in the world,” citing a study from “Forbes (2019).”

The feud between President Trump and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) which has heated up in the last couple of weeks has thrust the city of Baltimore into the national spotlight.

At a campaign rally in Cincinnati last week, Trump told his supporters that “the homicide rate in Baltimore is significantly higher than El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala. I believe it’s higher than, give me a place that you think is pretty bad, give me a place.”

The U.S. State Department currently has a “Level 2: Exercise Extreme Caution” warning in effect for U.S. citizens considering travel to Uruguay. For Venezuela, the State Department has issued a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” warning.

I think I’d rather take my chances in Baltimore or Detroit.
